12,864 energybill

Leeland Temple lives in a 14 by 60 foot trailer home on Post Oak Road in Texas. He opened up a letter from TXU Energy threating to shut off his electricity if he did not pay the $12,864.51 bill by May 3. Even after getting an attorney to phone the company with him they said he would have to pay $50 to conduct an investigation. TXU Energy spokeswomen later admitted the company had made a billing error. Leelands last months electric bill was for only 5 bucks, also a mistake. "It should be no more than $100 (each month)," he said. Well Leeland why not use solar power? Its got a fixed rate per month less than what your paying now ($100 a month!!!).

64MW Solar Installation About To Be Switched On!

by Justin Thomas, Virginia on 03.16.07

One of the world's largest solar installation is about to be switched on. The project is called Nevada Solar One, and it is projected to generate 64 megawatts, when it is operational. It covers 300 acres and contain 760 mirror arrays, each measuring about 100 meters. The total number of mirrors is approximately 184,000. The solar power plant will go live next month in Boulder City, Nevada. The mirrors direct sunlight on an oil-filled tube. The oil is then used to create steam, which turns a turbine. Solar-powered barbecue on sale

From correspondents in the UK

A SOLAR-POWERED barbecue has gone on sale in the UK, allowing fans of outdoor cooking to enjoy summer without fear of harming the environment.

Manufactured by Swiss company Tammock Trading, the Solar-Grill reflects sunlight onto a hot plate using mirrors and is available via the internet for £125 ($300).

Tammock Trading chief executive officer Rolf Schneeberger said the company was playing a part in helping people become more environmentally friendly.

“There's no smoke, no open fire and no pollution,” he told the Daily Mail.

“It's a small contribution to saving the environment but we feel we are doing our bit to help people be more green.”

Should Britain's infamous clouds roll in before the sausages are done, cooking can continue using odourless, alcohol-based fuel tablets.

Tiny Quantum Computers in Bacteria = Efficient Solar Power

Now scientists led by chemistry prof Graham Flemming and lead author Gregory Engel at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the University of California, Berkeley, have achieved a breakthrough advance in understanding the photosynthesis process. The team fired ultra-short laser pulses at the proteins bacteria use in photosynthesis. The proteins were frozen to more than 300 degrees below zero, which makes the quantum effects easier to observe and reduces the "noise" due to greater motion in warmer molecules. What they found is quantum waves of energy exploring different excitation possibilities in the protein at the same time. Like a tiny quantum computer, the protein answers the question: which is the right path to convert this energy at highest efficiency? The scientists, and peers in the field, expect that a similar phenomenon will be found in plants, explaining nature's efficiency in using sunlight.
